Author Guidelines

RAE-IC accepts the publication of original works in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, English, Italian, Portuguese and French in the field of communication.

Authors submitting papers are responsible for ensuring that they are unpublished and are not being considered for publication by another journal. They must be submitted through the electronic platform, which is OJS. Published articles are identified through the use of DOI.

Articles should not exceed 7,000 words (including references, footnotes, tables, figures, etc.). Authors can attach materials as an annex to the proposed research, although these must not exceed three pages and must be presented after the "References" section. Texts may be signed by one or more authors. However, it is recommended that the number of authors should not exceed three. The order of authors' signatures will be in accordance with the importance of their contribution to the approach, design and preparation of the article.

If the article is part of a funded research project, this fact, as well as the funding organization must be indicated in the "FINANCIACIÓN / FUNDING" section of the RAE-IC manuscript submission template. The source of research funding should also be indicated in the "Funding" section during the submission process.

The number of images, illustrations, figures, tables or other elements added to the text must not exceed ten. In the event that the presentation of the research requires a greater use of these material, authors must consult the editorial team.

RAE-IC encourages the participation of researchers from outside the publishing organization. The percentage of authors from RAE-IC's Scientific Committee and Editorial Board may not exceed 10% in each issue. Under no circumstances, the percentage of authors from director and deputy directors' institutions will exceed the 20% in each issue.

From May 2025 RAE-IC includes an exclusion period of 24 months. Thus, the same person cannot be listed as the author of a work until 24 months after his or her previous authorship.

Content and structure
Articles submitted to RAE-IC will include the following elements:

- Article title in the original language and in English. It should be less than 25 words in length.
- Abstract, with a maximum of 200 words and in a single paragraph, in the original language and in English. If the original work is in English, the second version of the abstract will be in Spanish.
- Keywords (maximum six) in the original language and in English.

Articles will follow the academic structure that includes introduction, literature review, method, results, discussion (if necessary), conclusions and references. Texts will be submitted anonymously, sending the personal data of the author(s) in a different document from the manuscript of the article.

References should be inserted in the text (not as footnotes), and should always include the surname of the author(s), the year of publication and the page(s). They will be elaborated according to APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition. Example: (Fernández, 2013, p. 110). All the references included in the text will appear in alphabetical order in the "References" section at the end of the article. Citations and references will follow the standards of the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition. They can be consulted at apa.org. In order to facilitate the insertion of citations and references, the use of automatic citation managers such as Mendeley or Zotero is recommended. 

Authors can download the article submission template. Here they can find information on the layout of elements, type and font size, line spacing, length, etc. Authors must download and use it without modifications when submitting manuscripts. The use of inverted commas is restricted to the upper inverted commas ("  "), and should be used, in particular, to include verbatim quotations from other documents. 

It is compulsory to download and submit the authorship document which includes: signature of the author(s), home institution, email address;  brief CV (maximum of 200 words), ORCID ID, and Google Scholar profile of each author.  In addition, in order to promote the work through our social media profiles, it is recommended to add authors' X (former Twitter) user as well as their profiles in ResearchGate and Academia.edu.

Failure to comply with the rules of structure and referencing may be grounds for returning the text to thee author or authors of the article.

Sections
During the submission process, authors should indicate the open access section to which their paper is addressed:
- Guest authors: essay articles related to the theme of the Thematic Issue. Reviewed by the editorial team and the coordinatros of the Thematic Issue.
- Thematic Issue: articles focused on a specific topic that are announced in a specific call for papers and edited by experts in the field. Peer reviewed (double blind).
- Miscellaneous: articles on a variety of topics in the field of communication, not related to the subject of study of the Thematic Issue. Submission of texts to this section is open throughout the year. Peer reviewed (double blind).
- Book reviews: reviews of recently published volumes in the field of communication. Submissions to this section is open throughout the year. Reviewed by the editorial team.

Use of inclusive language
The use of inclusive language is recommended in the works submitted to the journal. There are different guides for the use of inclusive language, such as those published by the United Nations or the Fundéu, which can be helpful during the preparation process.

Charges
RAE-IC does not charge for the processing or submission of texts for publication.
