Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the online communication strategies developed by Ecuadorian universities on Facebook. As a methodological technique, this work is based on the content analysis of the posts published between the months of April and August 2017 by the eight main universities classified in category A, according to the Ecuadorian ranking of the Council of Evaluation, Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Higher Education (CEAACES). The types of messages they publish were identified, the audiences to which they are directed were determined and the stakeholders' assessment of the publications was examined. It was verified that the universities of Ecuador hardly interact with their stakeholders, they use Facebook to disseminate information and do not take advantage of the possibilities offered by this channel to work the active listening. A correct strategic communication approach would improve the reputation of universities in the online environment.
