Facebook and public opinion: methodological proposal on the perception of the Law on Internal Security

In Mexico, the use that different media have of social networks to expand the diffusion spaces (press, electronic or digital media) has had a direct influence on netizens, which is directly reflected in the conceptualization and evaluation that these they manifest about their environment. An example of this is the reception that has been received regarding one of the most controversial laws of this government, the Internal Security Law. It seeks to provide a legal framework for the action of the Armed Forces in the fight against organized crime, granting them a series of powers that empower both the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA) and the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR). This bill has triggered a series of polarized reactions, which are reflected in the publications that can be found on Facebook. Returning to the framings of conflict and attribution of responsibility proposed by Semetko and Valkenburg (2000), a content analysis was carried out on a convenience sample of 100 comments published in this social network.
