The nonfiction narrative podcast of the work by Álvaro de Cózar: From V, las cloacas del estado to El País de los Demonios

Abstract

The non-fiction narrative podcast stands a genre in which it is possible to go into detail about the information.  One of the most innovative journalists in the development of this format in Spain is Álvaro de Cózar. V, las cloacas del estado (2016) was his first sound production, which opened the doors to this genre with a very personal tone in the universe of the Spanish podcasting.  Since then, he has achieved a resounding success with his own style. The objective of this article is to analyze the author's documentary podcast, determine the context and examine the contribution of this format to slow journalism movement. In this article, we analyze four sound productions by this author: V, las cloacas del estado (2016), X-Rey (2020), Los Papeles (2021) and El País de los Demonios (2023). The methodology used in these works is content analysis and in-depth interview based on open questions with the journalist. The journalist's immersion in history, the use of sound documentation, the combination of classic elements of journalism with new narrative, artistic and investigative techniques contribute to a new way of doing journalism and offer the listener the opportunity to analyze the facts in depth and to draw their own conclusions.
